Daughter of an Irish father who is as keen on business as he is an epicurean adventurer, I have always been driven by a real desire to undertake. My father, who left too soon, instilled in me this need to surpass myself and pursue my dreams right out of college, convinced that I had to adopt his mantra in turn:

Doing what you like is freedom,
liking what you do is happiness

I was 22 years old when the Téo Cabanel inheritance arrived without warning… I remember this feeling of being suddenly responsible for a unique family know-how. I had only one desire: to perpetrate it. I had to take the time to tame the world of perfume, to understand it, to smell and feel perfumes and raw materials. A few weeks later, I arrived in Grasse, without any experience, to meet Jean-François Latty there. I realize today how lucky I was to evolve in contact with him. Driven by the desire to transmit, he was one of the most committed ambassadors of fine perfumery.

I only thought perfume! I had fallen into the potion of a universe as magical as it was exciting.

But I also made an observation. One that 80% of the cost of a big brand perfume is dedicated to advertising. That the so-called “confidential” perfumes are, in my opinion, far too expensive. That you have to be ready to spend between 200 and 300 € to be able to afford a unique perfume, with good staying power and made from noble and natural raw materials. I also noticed that the world of perfumery is cold, distant, destabilizing and intimidating. How difficult it was to walk through the door of a perfumery without feeling lost or overwhelmed… And I had the feeling that perfume had become intimidating and ultimately reserved for connoisseurs.

And yet, I knew that just like a yoga class, a meditation, a sports session, perfume influences the psycho-emotional mind. It cures bad mood, acts on our morale, stimulates, soothes!

Perfume is therefore essential to our well-being... So I wanted to convince you to (re)put perfume in your lives!

#happypeopleuseperfume

To achieve this, things had to be done differently and above all much simpler. It was necessary to be more transparent, closer to you... to give you time to discover and tame our perfumes. We had to offer you beautiful perfumes, well made, good for you and for the planet and at fair prices.

I also wanted to make you want to wear them by offering you new scented routines, original, easy and unique rituals.

All of this was only possible by avoiding television spots, 4x3s in the metro, well-known muses by choosing to invest in the product itself. We had to reduce intermediaries, contact you directly, limit distribution to a few partners of choice. And finally, choose a different cost management. This is in order to remain faithful to the original values of the house and continue to be able to offer you beautiful, unique and singular perfumes, at fair prices. It is all this that was at the origin of the revival of Téo Cabanel and the choices that result from it: the choice to do well, that of transparency and proximity. That of a simple, relaxed and accessible luxury but also that of the environment and a real requirement. Today, there is a desire… a sincere desire to turn things upside down and even more the habits of a perfumery sector that has become too inaccessible. A desire to return to the values of this beautiful perfume house while bringing it a new vision, deeply creative and guided by my personal convictions.

I want a joyful, uninhibited, accessible, transparent and clean perfumery. A perfumery that makes you smile.

I want #beautifulparfums , daring, well-made, to make you want to wear them, to put them at the heart of your beauty routine and reveal your "I don't know what". #beautifulperfumes that will bring you magic and well-being to pimp* your days.

THE HOUSE
Teo Cabanel

“Founded in 1893 by Téo Cabanel, I relaunched the perfume house in 2006 with the ambition of giving pride of place to natural raw materials, to forge a link between the past and the present, between family know-how and the creativity of modern perfumery. ”

The legacy

The heritage of our house dates back to the end of the 19th century. It was in 1893 that Théodore Cabanel, then a medical chemist, began to compose precious Eau de Cologne and Quintessences for Handkerchiefs. He created, with the help of his wife Méloé, hundreds of formulas. They then opened a boutique in Paris and perfumed the most elegant women in the capital. This is how the story of our perfume house begins.

In the 1930s, their only daughter succeeded them. She strives to publicize the brand, the creations and the know-how of her parents. Singular woman for the time, free, with an asserted personality, she travels, meets creators and artists in vogue and attends the most popular parties in Paris. She marvelously embodies Parisian elegance and imposes herself on refined women looking for a confidential and original perfumer. It will thus cross several decades, imposing the Cabanel style from the beginning of the 60s to the end of the 80s.

The Renaissance
of the Brand

It was in the early 2000s that Caroline Ilacqua inherited the house at the age of 22. She then rediscovered the history of the Cabanel family, immersed herself in the 150 perfume formulas, the superb raw materials, the notebooks filled with magical recipes. She finds archive photos, customer testimonials and becomes aware of all these generations of women who have worn the perfumes of the house.

This is how she decided to go to Grasse, the cradle of fine French perfumery, with her formula books and some of the house's perfumes. He was introduced to Jean-François Latty, a great perfumer and creator of perfumes. It was then that a new page in the history of Téo Cabanel was written.

Caroline and Jean-François share a taste for fine perfumery. A special bond is established between them which will lead them to the creation of the first 10 perfumes of our collection.
